IN FOCUS: ROSE HIP OIL

The precious wild rose oil from rose hip seeds is a popular oil in skin care as it has an intensive skin regenerating, smoothing and moisturizing effect. It is suitable for all skin types, but is especially helpful for dry, flaky, tired and demanding skin. Its exceptional fatty acid spectrum makes it an effective oil for scar care. Wild rose oil is also often used as a base oil in body oil blends to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, as it promotes skin elasticity.

Wild roses belong to the Rosaceae family and come from areas of the northern hemisphere, as their seeds need a certain period of cold to germinate. Wild roses are all species that have developed without human influence; there are about 20 species in Germany, about 200 worldwide, the first term pink is the generic name, the second term refers to the species.

According to current research,Rosa mosqueta is a collective term for the different wild rose species Rosa moschata (musk rose), Rosa rubiginosa (apple rose, wine rose) and Rosa canina (dog rose, dog rose), which are widely distributed in Chile today. This taxonomic confusion leads to different INCI designations for wild rose oil: Rosa canina refers to one of our European dog rose; its fruits, the rose hips, have also introduced the common name rose hip seed oil or rosehip seed oil. In addition, the generic term Rosa mosqueta or one of the species underneath, especially Rosa rubiginosa, is circulating. From a cosmetic point of view, all species can be considered to be equivalent, especially since it is difficult for the consumer to determine which wild rose oil he is actually holding in his hands.

Wild rose oil is a classic beauty oil and like no other oil is ideal for treating dry, flaky skin, pigmentation marks and scars. Transretinoic acid has a strong healing and regenerating effect, promotes collagen production in the connective tissue and thus maintains the skin's ability to store moisture. Wild rose oil stimulates cell renewal and is considered an excellent and extremely well-tolerated facial oil for dry, mature, but also inflamed skin. In combination with evening primrose oil and its gamma-linolenic acid content (approx. 9%) it is an excellent combination for the above mentioned skin types.
