Bioturm

The basis of Bioturm products is the Lacto-Intensive Active Complex, which can be found in ointments, creams, lotions and even the intimate series and shampoos. The complex, obtained from certified organic whey, contains numerous ingredients that are also found in a very similar form in the natural skin environment: Whey proteins and amino acids, lactic acid and its salts, minerals, trace elements, carbohydrates and vitamins. It normalises the skin flora and acid mantle.

The Brand

A family business from Marienrachdorf

Martin and Karin Evers founded BIOTURM in 2001 in the Westerwald region, after years of work in the organic food industry. The decisive impulse came from organic whey: Martin Evers recognised that fermented whey contains ingredients that resemble the natural skin environment. This led to the development of the Lacto-Intensiv complex, the basis of most BIOTURM products.

The name BIOTURM derives from the historic water tower on the original company grounds. To this day it stands as a symbol of the brand's philosophy: steadfast, grounded, clear in its values. In 2015, daughter Jasmin Langer joined the management after completing her pharmacy studies. Today, Karin and Jasmin together with son-in-law Felix run the company as the second generation.

Im Jahr 2023 bezog BIOTURM einen modernen Neubau am Gründungsort Marienrachdorf: in Holzbauweise, mit Sole-Erdwärmeheizung und Photovoltaikanlage errichtet.

"Skin expertise begins with listening carefully when the skin speaks."

The Core

The Lacto-Intensiv Complex

BIOTURM uses fermented organic whey from Demeter-certified farms in southern Germany as the base of many products. A controlled fermentation process using lactic acid bacteria produces ingredients that occur in similar form in the natural skin environment.

01

Organic whey as starting material

Sour whey from Demeter organic farms is carefully fermented. This produces amino acids, lactic acid and its salts, minerals, trace elements and vitamins.

02

Similarity to the skin environment

According to BIOTURM, the contained ingredients resemble those found in the natural skin environment. The company sees this as a reason for the good skin tolerability.

03

Normalisation of skin flora

Nach Angaben der Marke unterstützt der Wirkkomplex die Normalisation of skin flora und des Säureschutzmantels sowie die Regulierung des Feuchtigkeitsgehalts der Haut.

04

Combined with plant oils

In many products, the complex is combined with high-quality plant oils and highly concentrated plant extracts from organic farming.

Key active ingredients

Micro-Silver, Urea and further special ingredients

In addition to the Lacto-Intensiv complex, BIOTURM uses further active ingredients in specific products, formulated for particular applications.

According to the brand, some of these products are used as adjuncts to therapy, for example in cases of atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. They do not replace medical treatment and are not medicines.

Note: BIOTURM products are certified natural cosmetics, not medical devices or medicines. For skin conditions, we always recommend consulting a doctor.
Micro-Silver

Micro-Silver is a special form of pure silver with a sponge-like enlarged surface area and a particle size of approx. 10 micrometres. Due to this size, it remains on the skin and does not, according to current knowledge, penetrate into deeper skin layers. It is not nano-silver. BIOTURM combines Micro-Silver in its Silver Series with zinc and plant oils. The Silver Series products are BDIH-certified.

Urea

Urea (urea) is a natural component of the natural moisturising factor (NMF). In care products it is used to support the skin's moisture content. BIOTURM uses urea in creams and lotions, especially in products for very dry skin.

Panthenol

Panthenol (provitamin B5) is a well-tolerated active care ingredient used in many BIOTURM products. It is absorbed by the skin and converted to pantothenic acid, which is involved in metabolic processes of the skin.

Zinc oxide

Zinc oxide has been used in natural cosmetics for a long time. BIOTURM uses it in combination with Micro-Silver, among other applications. All products containing zinc oxide are free from synthetic preservatives and mineral oils.

Knowledge & Buying Guide

Frequently asked questions about BIOTURM

Find answers to the most common questions about ingredients, certifications and application directly here. More questions are answered in our FAQ section below.

Who is BIOTURM suitable for?

The range also includes products for normal skin.

What does BDIH certification mean?

BDIH is one of the best-known German standards for controlled natural cosmetics. Certification excludes synthetic fragrances, mineral oils, PEG and parabens. BIOTURM has been BDIH-certified since 2007. Not all products carry the BDIH label; it is worth checking the product description before purchasing.

What is the difference between the product lines?

BIOTURM distinguishes between basic products for daily cleansing and care, specialised products for specific skin conditions (e.g. very dry or blemish-prone skin) and the Silver Series for irritated and stressed skin. For choosing the right product, a personal consultation or a careful look at the product descriptions in the shop is recommended.

Are all BIOTURM products vegan?

Not all BIOTURM products are vegan, as the Lacto-Intensiv complex is based on organic whey (an animal-derived raw material). However, BIOTURM offers a vegan sub-range that omits whey. Vegan products are labelled accordingly in the shop and on product packaging.

Can I use BIOTURM alongside medical treatment?

Where is BIOTURM produced?

All BIOTURM products are developed and manufactured in Germany, since 2023 in the modern new building at the founding location of Marienrachdorf in the Westerwald. The building was constructed using timber and is powered by brine geothermal heating and photovoltaics.

Sustainability

BIOTURM sustainability: responsibility as a family business

BIOTURM sources its organic whey from Demeter-certified organic farms in southern Germany. According to the company, it runs its own apiary, whose organic honey is incorporated into some products and sold regionally. The 2023 building was constructed according to ecological principles using timber.

The range includes vegan products as well as plastic-free solid products as a sustainable alternative to liquid products in plastic packaging.
