Santalum Austrocaledonicum
The essential oil sandalwood neulakedonic organic smells woody-fresh, warm and balsamic, it has a balancing and skin-regenerating effect. Its extraordinary and intense fragrance promotes inspiration and fires the imagination. Sandalwood adds an aphrodisiac note to sensual massage oil blends. A typical sandalwood note often only requires a hint of the essential oil. Using the oil sparingly makes sense from an ecological point of view and for cost reasons. We source the oil from an organic plantation in New Caledonia, a group of islands near Australia and New Zealand.
The use of New Caledonian sandalwood oil has only been known since the turn of the millennium. Due to the shortage and threat to the preservation of Indian sandalwood trees, New Caledonian sandalwood oil has begun to be used increasingly as a substitute for Indian oil. The sandalwood variety Santalum austrocaledonicum Vieillar thrives on the islands of Ouvea, Maré, Lifou and the Ile des Pins. Logging is limited and there are sandalwood plantations in which 3 new trees are planted for every one felled.
Due to its comparable composition of ingredients, organic New Caledonian sandalwood can be used as a cheaper counterpart to Indian sandalwood. The fragrance is somewhat fresher and less warm than organic Indian sandalwood, but smells typically of sandalwood.
