This untreated natural stone comes from the region of Troy in Turkey.
Travertine (Latin 'lapis tiburtinus' stone from Tibur) is more or less porous limestone of light, mostly yellowish to brown color, which precipitates from cold, warm or hot freshwater springs as spring lime. The precipitation of the natural stone is caused by the heating of the water in the air whereby carbon dioxide escapes, thereby reducing the solubility for the lime.
The small cavities and holes were created by trapped plant parts during the formation of the rock. The fine pores bind the excess water of the soap, allowing for optimal storage. The travertine is permeable to water, keeping the soap comfortably dry.
Application: The travertine can be used as a decorative soap dish or as a coaster.
